Blitz! - Adelphi Theatre (1962)

Year: 1962

Format: Programme

Illustrator: Denis Wrigley

Client: Adelphi Theatre

Details: This 1962 theatre programme is for ‘Blitz!’, a World War II-themed musical by Lionel Bart. It was the most expensive West End musical ever produced at the time. A particularly pithy summary comes from Noël Coward, who called it "twice as loud and twice as long as the real thing."

The artwork on this cover was created by Denis Wrigley. Wrigley designed several posters for theatre productions during the 1960s, several of which can be found in the V&A collection. He later moved towards illustrating children’s books, including writing and designing his own factual titles.
