Bayly studied at St Martin’s and Camberwell Schools of Art and became known for his work as a painter, illustrator, writer, and teacher. Between the 1940s and 1960s, he contributed a number of works to the General Post Office (GPO), creating designs for posters, telegrams, and other promotional materials.
For 32 years, Bayly taught at Margate, Canterbury, and Maidstone Colleges of Art, eventually leading the graphic design degree courses at Maidstone for 20 years. After retiring early, he returned to painting, serving as vice-president of the Royal Watercolour Society and president of the Weald of Kent Art Group.
His paintings were exhibited widely, including London’s Piccadilly and Mall Galleries. Bayly also authored books on art and, later in life, relocated to Australia, where he continued to create and showcase his work.
