Details: This c.1965 leaflet was produced by the menswear store Hornes to promote a range of cufflinks and tie tacks as Christmas gifts. The artwork is signed by British illustrator André Amstutz (1925–2015).

Born in Brighton, Amstutz studied at the Brighton School of Art during the early years of World War II. He began his career as an animator for Gaumont British (GB) Animation before transitioning to art direction, poster design, and illustrating children’s books.

In the 1950s, Amstutz served as an art director for prominent advertising agencies such as the London Press Exchange and Colman, Prentice & Varley. As a freelance illustrator, he created posters and illustrations for major clients including Shell, British Railways, BEA, the British Travel Authority, and the General Post Office.

From the 1960s onwards, Amstutz became a highly successful children’s book illustrator, collaborating with Allan Ahlberg on popular series like ‘Happy Families’ and ‘Funnybones’. He was also a member of the Society of Industrial Artists and Designers.

Later in his career, Amstutz taught at institutions such as the Leicester College of Art and Design and the Ipswich School of Art.
