Leonard Cusden (1898-1979) was born in Reading, Berkshire. He started designing posters in the 1930s, with much of his work being commissioned by railway companies such as GWR.

Cusden was a key artist for RoSPA, producing many safety posters in the post-war period and pioneering a lithographic process that used fewer printing plates. He was their Art Adviser from 1941, acting as an arbiter between RoSPA and designers such as Tom Eckersley, Bruce Angrave and Abram Games.
