Details: This 1970 Lotería Nacional pocket calendar is signed ‘Poza’ - the signature of Spanish graphic designer and illustrator Juan Poza Tártalo (1932-2015).

Juan Poza Tártalo was born in Madrid. At the age of 10, an accident forced him to rest and he devoted himself entirely to drawing.

He studied Arts and Crafts at the La Palma Street school before enrolling at the Commercial Instruction Centre, where he specialised in artistic and technical drawing and painting. In 1954, he continued his education at the National School of Graphic Arts, focusing on advertising, lithography, and drawing.

Over his career, Poza designed more than 300 posters for brands and events, including Nescafé, Lotería Nacional, Jefatura de Tráfico, Cajas de Ahorro, Festival de Benidorm, and the Festival de Cine de San Sebastián.

In 1959, he became an advertising director. He co-founded Grupo 13 in 1961, a collective of artists and designers dedicated to advancing graphic design in Spain. He later established his own studio in 1972.

In 1979, Poza was commissioned to create a commemorative book for the 1978 Spanish Constitution. After closing his studio in 2005, he dedicated himself to painting until his passing in 2015.
