Details: This late 1960s Puffin Books paper bag was illustrated by Jill McDonald (1927-1982). McDonald was the in-house illustrator for the Puffin Club, illustrating Puffin Post magazines, club-related paraphernalia and annuals.

Jill McDonald was a children's writer and illustrator born in Wellington, New Zealand. Originally training as an architect, McDonald moved into illustration following her marriage.

She became art editor of the New Zealand School Journal before moving to London with her two children in the mid 1960s, where she worked for Puffin Books.
